'Yes, first year. It took me a while to get my parents to agree to let me come to university...They're quite protective.' she replied looking a little embarrassed. 'RaveSpace?' Freya said with slightly wide frightened eyes. 'I've not been to any raves unfortunately. Are raves where people "mosh pit"? They sound terrifying and awfully violent.' Freya started fiddling with the coffee cup in her hands, afraid that her lack of "normal" social experiences with people her own age was evident.
At Alex's mention of complications, Freya's eyes shot up to his face searching for any evidence of suspicion. 'Nothing...just normal young adult things.' she shrugged as she spoke, hoping to convey the air of nonchalance.
'Oh I can tell.' she spoke without thinking. Freya's face immediately flushed bright red and slapped one of her hands against her face overwhelmed with her stupidity! Desperate to cover up her mistake she blurted out, 'I want to learn to fight! I mean, I've been interested in joining the gym to build up my strength and learn to defend myself if needed. Are the gym facilities here very good? I'm hoping to join some societies on campus and make some new friends. I think whilst being here I'm going to need some.' Freya posture slumped slightly as she acknowledged the fact that her list of friends was painfully small. Her eyes turned sad as she thought about her best friend from home, Olivia. She should really call her soon and find out how she is.

'I can imagine,' said Alex, when Freya mentioned her parents' protectiveness. He laughed when she asked about raves. 'Wow, okay, you really are playing the whole posh thing, aren't you? Uh, raves are sort of like big club nights. Actually, I think here when they say "rave" they just mean regular club nights... but I guess you're not too big on the whole nightclub thing either? Think, like, school discos for adults, but the music's good, everyone's drunk and the floor's really really sticky. Which probably doesn't really sell it... guess you've got to be there to appreciate it. Always found clubbing's one of those "so bad it's good" deals.'
Alex looked away, smirking at Freya's response when he mentioned the gym. Was Miss Upper Class hitting on him? Or was that just wishful thinking? If it was, did that mean he wanted her to be hitting on him?
'Yeah, the gym's not bad here. You can always head over there with me some time if you fancy it. And if you want to learn to fight, I've had a few self defence lessons. Didn't really want to go without them where I grew up. Be happy to give you a few sessions if you wanted?' He leaned in with a smile. 'And don't worry, I'll go easy on you, posh girl!'

'Playing posh?' Freya lifted one eyebrow elegantly at Alex's blatant statement. 'I think you'll find that I am not "playing" at anything. And as for being posh, which is a derogatory term by the way, to correct you I am upper-class thank you very much.' she said as she flipped her hair back over one shoulder with a playful smile. 'So you can put that in your pipe and smoke it, home-boy.' Freya added the action of clicking her fingers repeatedly in the air in front of her, laughing as she did it.
As Freya calmed down from her laugh she responded, 'Well I guess from a psychology perspective it would be very interesting to observe people's behaviour whilst intoxicated. I may have to give it a try whilst I'm here and gain the full university experience. There are some other Freshers in my flat in the Accommodation Centre; I'll ask around and see if they want to go and maybe I can tag along with them.' Freya wanted to see if Alex was going to RaveSpace soon, but did not want to appear interested or bothered by his response if he was going. He seemed to like clubbing and RaveSpace. He was probably an alcoholic. Yes, a smelly, dirty, horribly good-looking alcoholic man. And the last thing she needed was an alcoholic like that on her hands distracting her from her work.
Freya started to gather her bag together and picked up her now empty coffee cup as she stood. She paused for a moment before leaning in very closely to Alex's ear and whispered seductively, 'I always thought Little Red Riding Hood was meant to resist offers from Big Bad Wolfs. But I think free self defence lessons are too tempting to resist.' She stepped back and stood up straight and turned to walk out of the cafe, leaving Alex still sitting in the chair. Just before she was out of earshot, Freya shouted over her shoulder with a smug satisfied grin on her face, 'I'll see you later,home-boy!'.

'Well, I can see you're ready to face the real world, where all us common folk live,' said Alex, laughing at Freya's finger-clicking. 'There's a big RaveSpace night going on this weekend apparently. Might see you there while you're, uh, doing your psychology research?' He smiled at her again, still wondering what the hell he was doing. There was a reason he wasn't into posh girls, after the life he'd had growing up, but he couldn't help smiling when Freya was around.
As she left, he slumped back in his seat and exhaled through his teeth. Her last comment, shouted across the cafe, had drawn the attention of another guy sat nearby, who was now staring at Alex.
'Yeah,' said Alex. 'I know.'
He pulled his headphones out of his pocket, stuck them in and turned on some music on his phone. As Alex left the cafe, the sound of Chelsea Dagger by the Fratellis blared in his ears.

Herbert and Nathan walked towards the cafe, together. Herbert wasn't sure about Nathan; he stunk like mouldy fish, his beard looked like he'd been eating baked beans for too long and his obvious out of shape body screamed of being unable to comprehend a trendmill. Herbert frowned; and this was his teacher?
Herbert frowned as he saw the sign. "Damn, this cafe isn't open from midnight onwards." He facepalmed; he'd expect Nathan to be as stupid but not him. "I guess we can still walk and talk but then I really need to sleep," Herbert told him. "Lectures tomorrow."

'Actually, this is lesson one,' Nathan said thoughtfully. 'We're going to break in. Coming?' he said, in a way that suggested this was clearly the only option.

"Break in?" Herbert exclaimed. "Why? How?"

'Yes, break in. It's means to enter when closed,' Nathan patiently. 'As for how, by me turning invisible and you taking the rap. Failing that, I'll show you a trick. As for why, you have powers, and you need to access them. What better way than to ''break in'' to them?'
'Lets go!'

Herbert grabbed Nathan's arm. "Whoa, dude, I don't want to get kicked out after my first day!" He rubbed his face. "This sounds like the stupiest training I've heard in my life."

Nathan smiled. 'That's because it is Daniel Larusso! But it's going to work, trust me.'
He stepped up to the door, and looked up to the street light near them. He focused, and pulled the electricity from the lamp, sending it into the lock, which fizzed out completely. He grinned and his hand turned completely red, without a fingerprint in sight.'
He turned back to Herbert and held up his hand. 'Try it, but don't go black face. We don't need that kind of rap.'

"Erm, what did you just do?" Herbert asked, confused utterly by the weird electricity and the red hand. "I thought you had invisibility?"

'Yeah, that's a common misconception. One floating head and now I'm the fucking invisibility cloak. As I was telling that blonde bimbo Chris, I'm an absorber.'
'Say with me now, Herbert. A-B-S-O-R-B-E-R.'

Herbert laughed despite himself. "Yeah, I guess so. No, but I meant, okay, so you absorbed the electricity and used it to blow off the lock. So you can do some electrical manipulation then? But why is your hand red?"
He looked down in shame, before saying. "Okay... Absorber."

'Good!' Nathan said happily. 'Now, I'm not going to embarrass you kid. We're going to work on this together.'
He pushed open the door and ushered Herbert into the empty cafe, closed the door and turned on the lights. Then he turned to Herbert, and pulled out a multi coloured hankiechief.
'This is how I turned my hand red. I absorbed the colour red. See?' He waggled his hand. 'As for the electricity, I can absorb elements, so electricity. I can then redirect them into a tiny space and poof! Nothing solid, like say, a bullet, but anything even a little intangible, like say, music, I can do that.'
Golden years by David Bowie suddenly emitted from Nathan he walked to the bar to get a coffee. 'Want one?' he asked as he started the machine.

Herbert smiled despite himself. "Fair enough..., that's a pretty cool power actually. And yeah, thanks. Guess we'll be up a while." He sat down at the counter, crossingb his arms. "Thanks for this, Nathan. I don't think you know how much I appreciate this. I," he looked down, "I really want to have powers," he admitted. He smiled. "Even if it means putting up with your bad popular culture references."
