Herb smiled at the new guy and shook his hand.
"Not much. Just trying to finish papers, get a better grip on my powers." He frowned. "Where's Olem? I thought he was coming with you?"

"He stood her up." Abu quickly answered.
Aurora had a furious blush. "He. Did. NOT. Stand me up." She turned back to Herbert with a calm expression, albeit a little embarrassed about potentially being stood up by her own boyfriend. "He's running late." She checked her phone; still no texts. "I'm sure he'll be here... He promised me a dance..." Aurora's voice faded to a whisper at the end, her eyes looking a little sorrow-filled.

Herbert sensed her emotions and held his arms out. "It's fine, don't worry." As he waited for Aurora to respond, he texted, sending a message to Margarita. She'd want to know the party had started.

Nathan looked between them all, and back at Abubaker.
'So, Abby Baker? What are your powers?' he asked tactlessly. 'And always nice to be ignored Aurora, as ever,' he said, performing a mock incline of his head. Nathan didn't look particularly upset, and he just grinned from his professor x wheelchair.

Herbert suddenly excused himself. "I' going to head off, try to get Margarita, you know?" With that, he walked off, promising to be back.

The Redeemer suddenly appeared in a pulse, surrounded by other villains of various colours. He looked around, his eyes glowing.
'Have I missed the party?' he asked mockingly. One of the Olympians rushed forward but a wave of dark energy crashed into him. He was thrown back into a wall, and fell to the ground, his neck broken. 'What a shame,' the Redeemer said, strolling forwards. 'One Olympian down.'
Champion stepped forward, her anger clear on her face. 'You've stepped too far this time, Redeemer! We're going to end this now!'
'Yes, we are,' he agreed casually. Time stopped and he teleported forward, punching his fist right through her chest. Time resumed its normal pace as he pulled out his fist, bloody and dripping blood. 'How easy. I thought you were meant to be Olympians!' he roared.
'You want a fight! Have it with me.' Gilbert Flynn stepped forward from the crowd, dressed in a fine tux, his hair neatly parted. His stance was heroic though, and his fists crackled with electricity. April Flynn grabbed him. 'No, don't do this Gilbert,' she pleaded. 'What about Herbert? You can't fight him.'
'Someone has to,' he muttered, looking down at her. 'I know what he wants,' he said, looking at the Redeemer. 'We all know,' he said, giving her a look.
April's eyes were filled with tears but he nodded. 'I know,' she agreed weakly. 'I... I'll look after Herbert,' she told him, tears streaming down her face.
Gilbert turned to face the Redeemer. 'I know what you want. You want to know how to use the machine, don't you?' The Redeemer nodded silently. 'You also want to make an example of Olympus. Champion wasn't enough.'
'I admit, a Flynn would satisfy me,' he said darkly. 'I tried to kill your son, but you know what? I failed,' he growled. 'But it won't matter soon. Once I know how to use it, none of this will matter. But it will be satisfying,' he admitted. 'Pointless, but satisfying.'
'If I fight you, will you agree to let the others live?' Gilbert asked, resigned to his fate.
The Redeemer shrugged. 'Tell me how to use the machine first.' Gilbert nodded and stepped forward. He told the Redeemer something quietly then they moved back to face each other. The Redeemer looked immensely satisfied. 'Thank you, Voltage. I admit, it took me some time to even work this out. But now, you can't stop me.'
'I wouldn't be so sure. I may not be able to, but Olympus will. There's still some of us left after all.'
'That will shortly be corrected,' the Redeemer hissed.
Gilbert's face tightened. 'You promised you'd let these people go.'
'Well, I lied didn't I?' the Redeemer admitted, for the first time. April leapt into action, slamming into him. The Redeemer was thrown back as Gilbert slammed a bolt of lightning into him.
The Redeemer crashed into the wall as the heroes and villains collided on each side, powers blazing and ripping apart the building. Others ran for cover as April and Gilbert tried to stop the Redeemer.
April sped up her blows so she was like light itself, hitting the Redeemer from all directions. Gilbert moved close and slammed into him with electricity bounding off the Redeemer's armour. The Redeemer was being hit so fast he couldn't think, let alone move. He staggered back, tried to fend them both off. He roared in anger, but it took only mistake and the Redeemer had won.
The Redeemer managed to get a strike in on April, and he broke her leg in his lashing out. He blasted her back and she fell to the ground in pain. Gilbert roared in anger and pressed his attack. Yellow electricity crackled through the air as Gilbert punched the Redeemer, throwing everything he had into it. EMPs started also pulsing through the roof, destroying the lights in the hall. The Redeemer's armour flickered, but it held on and suddenly, he had grabbed Gilbert's punch. Electricity exploded from Gilbert's fist, but the Redeemer kept hold of it and started crushing his hand.
'OLYMPUS IS DEAD!' the Redeemer roared furiously as he crushed Gilbert's hand. Then he smashed him across the face and beat him on the ground. 'You know what? I'm going to finish you all off once I've finished Omega. I'm going to hunt you down, and Herbert too. I'll wait, just to kill him. You see, it's all over. The moment you revealed how to use the machine, you lost.' He stopped hit, ting Gilbert and tore off a railing from the side of the room, before ramming it into Gilbert's chest. He stood, breathing heavily. 'Say hello to Herbert for me.'
Then he pulsed away, leaving the room in chaos. Heading to Olympus.

Herbert stepped into the ruined room, his eyes roaming over the supers. He gave a gasp as he saw his parents crumpled on the ground.
With a cry he left Margarita and raced to his dad's side, who was breathing heavily.
"Your mother," he gasped, pointing over at her. "Use... use your powers," he croaked, trying to steady his breathing.
Herbert knew he must have lost Lucio's power but he ignored that, delving deep, forcing his DNA to remember. A strong golden glow went off like a torch, healing April broken leg and bones. He faced relaxed as her heartbeat steadied.
"Now you," Herbert cried, moving to his dad. The super stopped his hand, looking him in the eyes. "It's too late... he ruptured-," he started coughing blood. "It's too late. Herbert," he took his face. "You'll be the most powerful- the greatest super the world has seen. Use my power. Affect the neurons, the electrical signals. Nullify his powers. Take them. Stop him."
"You know, about my powers," Herbert said, feeling numb.
"You're useless at hiding stuff, Herb," he laughed. He coughed blood again as Herbert tried to heal him. Golden light glowed but Gilbert was nearly gone.
"I've always been proud of you," he admitted, clasping his sons face as he died.
Herbert's face moved from shock to anger, as he stood, the rage filling him. He started moving around the room, taking hands and powers off the assembled supers. He could feel his body straining to keep so many biut he wasn't planning on keeping them locked up. He was going to release them.
His DNA brought the remembered abilities to the fore as Herbert started to hover, glowing his power.
"Where's the Redeemer?!" He screamed.

'Olympus Herbert,' Nathan told him, wheeling his way up. He had blood running from his nose. 'He's gone to Olympus, to start the machine. He plans to supercharge his powers. Kid, if you can get there in time, you might be able to supercharge your own. Go now!'

Herbert nodded, looking at his friends... the ones who were left.
"Look after Margarita. And my mother and Aurora. And yourself," he touched Nathan's hand for a moment before flying off out the window at supersonic speed.

(OOC: After the Redeemer and Herbert's final battle.)
Herbert appeared in that moment, stopping time. Luckily, the Vertex energy still existed so his control over time exceeded the current Redeemer's as he entered the party. He strode up to his frozen form and used Captain Omega's OP strength to rip his mask off. The same broken face rested underneath. With a sigh, he placed his hand on his head and used Lois power. So much more than just putting someone to sleep. He placed his memories in him, to show the Redeemer his future self. His redeemed self.
And he unfroze time.

(OOC: So, this didn't turn out in the way we expected but no-one posted so there you go.)
It took a while, it took some adjusting, and it was a huge crash on the mind but people adjusted. And they looked forward to a bright future. Herbert stood there and preached, bringing the heroes together.
Though we lost many members along the way, that's it I believe. Let's put this tired forum for a rest. I don;t think anyone got to explore stories they were planning, and we're sorry for that.
But take comfort it ended in Redemption.
"I look in your eye, Herbert, and I see compassion, empathy, but most of all, I see hope. This world won't be saved on strength. What it really needs is heart -- and that's you."
"You came here because you needed to. You needed to hear the truth before you could save the world."
"I save the world?"
"You've had the power all along, Herbert. You just needed to learn how to use it."
"Why me?"
"Because there has to be one that's good. There always has. And your heart has the ability to love unconditionally. Like I told you, in the end, all that really matters is love."
