All Science and Maths related courses are taught primarily from this building that's organisation is as precise as you would expect from a building occupied by mathematicians. Unfortunately, the extreme over-abundance of logical, systematic thinking has left this complex of labs and seminar rooms just as confusing as the Arts block to any regular human mind. The flooring is all vinyl, a faint smell of disinfectant always hangs in the air and fire exits are clearly marked (and used a little too regularly). The labs are filled with white surfaces, long tables, glass screens and all manner of equipment, ranging in appearance from the mundane to the exotic.

Chris entered the building and followed the signs leading her to the psychology department. She thought it strange that her course was a Bachelor of Science and not a Bachelor of Arts but here she was in the science building. Fortunately, only one of her modules had started so she only had to go see one lecturer; Professor Jaki Singleton. Chris knocked on her office door despite it not being her office hours but Chris was in luck as Jaki answered and so Chris entered the office.
"Hello there," the middle-aged woman with medium length, straight blonde hair and round glasses said as she saw Chris enter, "I don't recognise you so you must be a first year, I must say you're dressed a little peculiarly," Jaki was smiling at Chris, her tone and gestures a little eccentric. "Oh um....it must be the hat," Chris stumbled before getting her words out with a slight chuckle, removing the hat from her head, "yes I am a first year. I unfortunately missed the first lecture on 'developing the criminal psychologists' yesterday and I was just wondering what it was exactly I missed?" Chris enquired with a confident tone and a friendly smile. "Oh wow!" Jaki said with surprise, "this is a first actually, well amungst you first years anyway," she giggled slightly, "erm well there wasn't really that much covered. Just the basic introduction to the module, going over what will be covered by the module and just a brief overview on the assessments. So nothing to worry about. You can find the powerpoint on the university website, on the psychology page," Jaki kept up her smile. "Oh okay thank you very much," Chris thanked her. "My pleasure, it is what I'm here for," her eccentricity remained, "what is your name by the way?" "Chris. My name is Chris." "Chris, excellent, I'm Jaki in case you didn't know," "Jaki. Cool. Well I'll see you at the next lecture," Chris said smiling, putting her hat back on. "Fab," Jaki replied as Chris left her office and closed the door.
Relieved she didn't have anything to catch up on really, Chris headed back to the accommodation block. Jaki seemed nice. A little eccentric perhaps but still very friendly.

After Aurora’s lecture ended, Katie once again invited her to hang out at the café go. Aurora said she would catch up with the group later. As she walked out of the door, professor Jaki Singleton tapped on her shoulder and gestured for her to wait behind. Aurora stepped to the side and watched the door close after the last student.
“You look as white as a sheet!” Jaki announced with a friendly smile. “Do you mind if we had a bit of a chit-chat?”
Aurora smiled, though didn’t like the fact it was obvious on her face how drained she was. “Sure, but if it’s about me getting a low 2:2 in your module last year I-“
“No, no, no. It’s nothing like that. Though I implore you to attend my extra seminars in the run up to the exams later in the year. You excel in Ben’s modules but seem to struggle in mine and Carol’s.”
Aurora cleared her throat. “It just gets a bit complicated with the added maths and chemistry. Anyway, what is it you wanted to talk to me about?”
“Well, I overheard Carol’s and Ben’s conversation about your dissertation topic.” That meant Dr Lee had shared his concerns with them. “I just thought it was a strange topic for you. You always seemed more interested in therapy for children and adolescence. So switching from Carol to Ben for your dissertation didn’t surprise me, just you-“
“Well antisocial personality disorders show a lot more in childhood than adulthood.” Aurora butted in. “You have a better chance of diagnosing it in someone under 15 than an older person; after all, and adult makes for a more convincing liar. Besides, research shows that psychopaths are born that way and sociopaths are shaped, usually, by their childhood. I think this still falls under my umbrella.” Aurora defended.
Jaki blinked and her smile had faded for a moment before it bounced back. “That’s fair enough. I’ll come clean-“ Clean. Sure. Jaki wasn’t clean. “Ben wanted me to keep an eye on you this lecture because he thinks you’re keeping bad company. You look very tired, so I thought I would try and talk to you about it.” Her hands kept moving; talking with her words.
“Mm. My friend committed suicide.” Aurora bluntly stated. “It was my fault she did. I thought the university would have been informed?”
Jaki still had a smile, but it had shrunk. “Well, Olympus have been in touch about a student, but we haven’t had anything official come through.” She put a hand on Aurora’s shoulder and looked deeply into her eyes. “I’m so sorry for your loss. It’s never easy dealing with something like this, but you can’t blame yourself for it.”
“No. It’s not easy…” Aurora could feel her hands close into fists and she looked away from Jaki. “Uh, anyway, you can tell Dr Lee that that’s what is wrong with me. I’m not keeping bad company.” A smile came to her lips. ‘There’s more too him. He wasn’t born that way, but my lecturers are right, I do have to watch out; people can fake emotions after all.’
Jaki gave her a half smile. “If you need to talk, you know my office hours.”
“Thank you.” Aurora said and headed towards the door. “I’ll try harder in your modules this year.”

Chris entered the lecture theatre and took a seat near the back. The module was 'investigating criminal psychology' lectured by a Professor Priya Bradshaw. As this was the first lecture of the module, it merely went over what the module was going to entail and what the assessments were and when they were due. Just a basic, general introduction. Chris made sure to note down the worthy stuff though there weren't many, just some dates.
Once the lecture was over, Chris headed back to the accommodation block.

“Today class, to complete this work you will be assigned a partner” Raymond Valnus stopped, glaring disdainfully at the boy with chaotic blonde hair who entered his classroom late, stuttering out an apology before heading to the back of the room. “As I was saying before I was interrupted" his voice dropped with venom “I will be assigning you a partner to complete the lab with today.”
Taniel sat in the back of the room, trying to make himself smaller. It was quite the task. He opened up his bag, taking out his notebook and pen.
“Taniel Kresimir and Alice McCoy, please come to the front” Raymond said, flicking through a stack of paper. Taniel got up, and so did a short ginger haired girl. They headed to the front and retrieved the sheet, Taniel heading back to his spot with the girl following him. Taniel sat in his spot, the girl taking the seat next to him.
“Hello” Taniel said, throwing up a confident face “I'm Taniel. You must be Alice”
'Duh’ she wrote on a piece of paper, looking at him with contempt.
“OK” he mumbled, caught aback by her bluntness “let's get on with this” his voice quiet and he started to work away on the work. About five minutes into the task, Taniel felt a jab in his ribs. He turned his head and saw Alice looking up at him.
'Can you help me with this?’ she wrote on her dialogue paper, and pointed at a question on the sheet about volcanic projectiles.
“Tephra. It's called Tephra.” Taniel muttered, turning back to his own sheet before he felt another jab in his side.
'Thanks’ she wrote, a slight scowl present on her face.

“Excuse me, why do you write down everything instead of talking?” Taniel asked, curious about his partner.
'I’m a mute’ she wrote, glaring at him.
“Do you know sign language?”
'Yes’ she wrote. 'Do you?’
“Nope” Taniel said
'So why did you ask?’ she gave him an exasperated look.
“Curiosity” he replied simply, looking away. She glared at the back of his and closed her book with a slam, walking out of the room in a huff. Taniel looked at his phone, and started to pack his stuff away too as he realised the time. He'd found another side project to work on. As he finished packing his stuff away he quickly walked back to the accommodation block.

Taniel walked into the lecture, painfully aware that all the eyes shifted from the lecturer to him. He gulped and quickly made his way up the stairs, past the onlookers, trying not to trip up on the stairs and reached his spot in the back of the room. He kept his head down as he pulled out his notepad and pen, before he felt something jab him in the side. With a slight frown, he looked to the side, realising he was sitting next to Alice.
<Hello> she signed smiling at him despite his scowl. <Why were you late?>
<I was . . . preoccupied> he replied, his scowl disappearing slightly as he talked to her.
<Better not have been a game> she smirked playfully at him, and returned her attention to the front of the class, where the lecturer was talking about prehistoric climates. Taniel turned his attention towards the front as well, hastily scribbling notes into his book with his spidery handwriting.
An hour later, the lecture was called to a close, and the students started to filter out. Taniel and Alice slowly joined the procession following out. As they reached the exit, Alice grabbed his jumper and tugged on it lightly.
<Do you want to do more sign language lessons?> she asked, looking up at him
“Sure, I’ll get refreshments in payment like last time” he said, and they walked off towards the café.
