Welcome to Capital City University Campus! Here you will start as a student living in the on-campus accommodation centre, until you move into one of the official accommodation blocks. In the the meantime, you will attend talks from the UK's government-appointed superhero firm, Olympus, see their Sentry Drones arrive on campus, witness the Capes Off Campus protests and meet your fellow students. And then the Vertex Centre, a leading UK research centre based on campus, will turn on an experimental new machine.
This will go horribly wrong.
The resulting accident will imbue several students with superpowers.
You must find your place in a world of government-approved, privately employed heroes; underground vigilantes; supervillains; anti-superhuman sentiment; and pro-superhuman extremists. Are you pro- or anti-superhuman? Do you approve of the officially regulated heroes, or do you stand with the vigilante heroes? Or is your alignment with the villains? And, most importantly, are you a superhuman?
You will live on the CCU campus, alongside other students and together you will confront superhuman threats that will unite you and divide you.
Olympus
Headed by Captain Omega, the world's premier superhero, and working under the authority of the government's superhuman response division, S-Quadrant, Olympus is a privately funded superhero firm. Captain Omega (as Olympus's representative and leader) and S-Quadrant officials operate from the Shard in London, while Olympus is based in the former BT Tower, now Olympus Tower. In order to operate legally, all superheroes must be added to the official register by S-Quadrant and signed onto an Olympus contract. Olympus-employed superheroes operate alongside the law, unhindered by police, and act in accordance with orders from Captain Omega and S-Quadrant. This means never taking a life in the line of duty, sticking to your jurisdiction and only taking action against provably guilty criminals. Olympus superheroes may arrest criminals they have captured, acting as part of official legal authorities. They must also accept their civilian identities being public knowledge. Only superhumans qualify to join Olympus, which is the government's way of offering them employment and a legitimate outlet for their powers.
Vigilante Heroes
Hidden in the shadows, free from the regulations and watchful eye of Olympus and S-Quadrant, superhuman vigilantes prowl the streets, taking the law into their own hands to take down the criminals and the corrupt. They are hunted by the police, wanted criminals viewed in the same light as the criminals they vow to stop. They lack the unity and the authority of their Olympus counterparts and their moral compasses are more varied. Some are righteous, holding themselves to the same standards as Olympus heroes without having to surrender their secret identities or remain in a single area, while others choose bloodier paths to justice, hunting down the villains the law cannot convict and executing whatever judgement they see fit. Some vigilantes are superhuman, while others have no powers, training themselves to become crime fighters for the good of their city.
Supervillains
Anyone using their superpowers, or other 'superhuman' resources, against innocents and civilians fits the category of supervillain. These are people more interested in personal gain and vengeance than justice, or people whose idea of justice comes at the expense of the innocent. These include superhuman extremists, who believe regular humans are inferior and should be subservient to - or destroyed by - the superhumans; anti-superhuman extremists, who use the resources at their disposal to wage war on the superhuman population (some of these may even be superhumans, who see themselves as an exception to their own brutal rules); and all other thieves, crooks and killers who terrorise others through capabilities beyond those of a regular human.
Civilian Superhumans (and other superhuman neutrals)
Not all superhumans feel compelled to join the fight for justice or are tempted by darker paths. There are those with powers who just want a quiet life and continue to live as civilians, learning to live with superhuman abilities. Any use of powers that may be deemed dangerous from non-Olympus employees is an arrestable offence, so civilian superhumans often keep their powers a secret, but some do make use of them for fame and fortune, with videos of superhuman stunts taking the internet by storm.
Activists
With or without powers, activists are (usually) non-violent people getting involved with the superhuman cause, whether they are for or against this new step in human evolution. Pro-superhuman activists are campaigning for greater rights for superhumans, feeling the current arrangements and laws under S-Quadrant are treating superhuman citizens with suspicion and aggression, stoking the fires of anti-superhuman prejudice in society at large. Anti-superhuman activists feel more needs to be done to control the potential threat that comes with the superhuman population, wanting to see compulsory registration of all superhumans (even the civilians), stricter laws against the use of powers and more segregation of humans and superhumans.
Regular Civilians
Regular humans living in a world of superhumans. It's a difficult, and sometimes scary, time to be alive.
