Signe flung open the door and scanned the outside. Here was the cause of it. The Vertex centre was fizzling as though some great shockwave had come out of it. Signe turned her head. To hell with that. She turned her head back towards where she knew the pharmacy was but now wasn't sure about what to do. She was feeling dizzy now. She gently slid down to the floor. Here... Here seemed a good place to sleep...

Aurora's room was flooded with immense light. Her eyes shot open against her will. She could not close them. In panic, she flailed around until her body rolled off of the bed and hit the floor with a thud. She covered her eyes with her hands, for if she didn't, she was sure they would melt. Aurora rolled onto her front and pressed her forehead against the carpet. Her hands moved to cover her ears as a strange sound deafened her. The window shattered and a glittery shower of glass rained over Aurora.
Waves of energy washed over her. Again and again. She finally regained control of her eyes. Aurora blinked as much as she could. She grabbed onto the frame of her bed and hoisted herself up. Energy continued to fill her room. On unstable legs, she wobbled over to the window. Blotches of colour blocked most of her sight, but she could see the Vertex Centre in the near distance. Another wave of energy rushed into her room and blew her backwards. She fell into the glass shards and began to bleed.
She picked herself up and grabbed her phone. Aurora opened the door to the hallway and saw the masses screaming; scared and hurt.
“Everyone evacuate the building!” She tried to shout. Most were doing just that, but some were knocking on doors. Her voice was lost to the wailing but as someone knocked on her neighbour's door, she confronted them. “Get out of the building, now!”
“I can't!” The female cried. “I need to make sure Lucy is out firs-”
“No! Your priority is yourself. There are Capes on campus who will make sure everyone is safe. Please, just get out. Lucy has probably already left.”
The girl was hesitant but nodded her head. She rushed down the hallway with the others. Aurora was about to join her but then looked at Lucy's door. Normally she would just rush out like everyone else, but she was drawn to make sure that Lucy had indeed got out. She banged her fist against the door. “IS THERE ANYONE IN THERE?” She pressed her ear against the door to listen to a response. Amongst all the chaotic noise, Aurora heard something. A cough.
At that moment, she acted on impulse. She reeled herself back and bashed her shoulder against the door. Normally, she would not be strong enough to break down a locked door, but due to the blast, the door flung open and Aurora tumbled into the room.
There, beneath a pile of rubble, was a female student. Aurora assumed it was Lucy. Her room had been one of the unlucky ones that had taken some damage from the explosion of light and lightning. She was barely concious. Aurora bolted forward and tried to lift the rubble off of Lucy. Slowly, she managed the job and then pulled the other student so she was slumped on Aurora's back. She lifted her up and started to make her way out of the building.
With each step she took, she felt as though the damage was catching up to her. Her legs felt frail and weak. Lucy's weight seemed to lift off of her more and more. Once they were out of the building, Aurora collapsed and fell unconscious as a healthy Lucy looked over her and called for help.

Alex was thrown out of bed so quickly, he didn't wake up until he hit the wall. Blue light obliterated his vision, consuming him and the room around him. Energy seared over him, moving in tight coils that stung and pounded his body as they moved over it, all while Alex was pinned high against the wall over his bed. He screamed, unable to tell if no sound was coming out of his mouth or if the thunder-like noise that filled his ears was drowning it out. Bolts of energy struck him and, for a split-second, he felt as though his entire body had been ripped to shreds, as though there were nothing left of him.
He slammed back into being, landing heavily on the floor. His eyes opened just in time to see his bed falling towards him. Flinging his arms over his face, he rolled aside to avoid being hit. The room's single chair crashed down next to his head, followed by his still-packed bags. The clothes he had thrown off before getting into bed landed on top of him. Everything must have been thrown up into the air with him when whatever just happened happened. Still panting, lying on his back, Alex took a deep breath and looked up at the... floor.
He looked around. His furniture and belongings were all scattered about the ceiling, where he was lying on his back. It were as though the whole room had been turned upside down.
Alex turned to the window, the curtains falling away from it, towards the ceiling (falling upwards? Downwards?). Outside, the blue light was still visible, coming and fading in waves. Stepping towards the window, he took in the scene outside.
'Oh no... what the fuck?'
The whole world was upside down. He looked down, through the waves of light and energy and into the clouds beneath him. His breath caught in his throat as he turned his head upwards and saw the ground that had replaced the sky. He spotted the upside-down Vertex Centre, standing amongst the light and destruction, bolts of energy shooting out of its shattered windows and down into the sky.
'What the hell have they done?' The words were barely a whisper. 'Okay... so, either the whole world is upside down... or I am. Along with my stuff.'
Alex looked back up at the floor. And then he fell. He hit the floor hard - it really was the floor this time - and the bed, chair, bags and clothes all landed around him with a series of thuds.
Looking towards the door, determined to find out what was happening, he tried to get up. He couldn't.

James was on his way out the accommodation centre door when the blast hit.
The previous day had been a bit of a blur of people who he hadn't really talked to, and jaunty representatives in bright t-shirts who he had barely looked at. He had headed to his room early to sleep. All the Architecture students had an early morning tour of the department (seriously, who schedules these things?), so he had got up in a bit of a daze, put on mismatched socks and headed out the door. He met nobody in the lobby, but the street outside was already filling up with people on their way to work. The hoodie and headphones were the perfect insulation from London's morning bustle. Radiohead's Paranoid Android was the perfect soundtrack to a first day.
The light hit half way through the song, then in the pause as the guitars fell silent the shock-wave hit, roaring through the space between him and the Vertex centre. He never heard the blast as he hit the wall of the Accommodation Centre.
James found himself lying face down, tinny chorus playing from the fallen headphones by his side.
As he raised his head, the world around him burst into chaos.

Lucio had decided against going to the bar with the others. While he enjoyed a friendly drink back home, he had heard many horror stories about the British tendency to binge drink which, frankly, scared him. Instead he had spent most of his time unpacking in his small room. He didn't have much to unpack; a few pairs of shirts, a tie or two, some pairs of jeans and two pairs of pyjamas, along with a pair of Wellington boots he had picked up at the airport. Those were his casual clothes, but he had also brought his old fatigues with him; they were the most well-made clothing he owned, as they were tailored to him. He also had his dress uniform, neatly pressed and folded. Aside from that, he had a few personal possessions; a good quality laptop with the insignia of Station Militia painted on it as a parting gift from his friends there, a pendant in the shape of a small heart, his grandfather's second-best watch and a few other bits and pieces. His most prized possession, however, was his Tellasite dancing belt; eight strips of leather, with heavy lead weights at thier ends, which greatly increased a dancers momentum and allowed for some truly incredible spins. It was a symbol of status, like a Ballet dancers shoes, and he cherished it.
He was halfway through unpacking when there was a horrific flash of white light and he was knocked to the floor. He opened his eyes, after a few seconds, to what was DEFINITELY not his room. He was lying on grass, thicker and more verdant than any he had seen. There were flowers everything, bright and filling the air with a sweet scent. He sat up and saw that he was in some sort of clearing in a forest; there was blue sky above him, but it was hard to see past the trees that lined the small clearing. As he slowly stood, he noticed a small stone altar in the centre of the clearing. He approached it tentatively. It was bare except for a gold laurel wreath. Lucio reached out to touch it almost instructive, but stopped short before his fingers could brush it. He was trying to make sense of it all when a voice whispered in his head. He couldn't make out the words; they sounded like Greek, which he knew a smattering of, but not quite right. The voice grew terse, annoyed in tone, and a bit fainter, and it seemed to be asking questions. Then a second, deeper voice answered, very faintly, in a an exasperated fashion, and then there was a clicking sound;
"- ou massive fucking cockwomble! How am I supposed to work any of this stuff?! This was supposed to be your job, you immeasurable fuckwit- What? The translator's on? Oh shit." the voice went from angry to sultry, and now Lucio could make out a few more details. It was definitely female, and was speaking in an accent-less Tellasan. It was the sort of speech non-natives had, in tone and vocabulary. "Greetings, Warrior. Do not fear. Touch the Wreath and all will be answered." Lucio eyed the wreath with suspicion and kept his hands to himself. "There is nothing to worry you, Warrior. You are safe." the voice whispered.
Lucio shook his head. "Nope" he said, to no one in particular. "Ain't gonna." "Oh for fu-I mean, foolish mortal. Are you rejecting great power and knowledge?" "Yup. Keep your wreath." "No. You must touch it." "Ain't gonna." "Touch it!" "No." "Do it! Just do it!" "Noooope!" "TOUCH THE FUCKING WREATH!" "No!" "Right, that's fucking it! Fuck you and fuck your free choice!" With that, Lucio's left arm shot upwards of it's own volition and grabbed the wreath firmly.
What happened next was... confusing... There were a hundred thousand flashes of things, of sights, smells, tastes and sounds, and Lucio could not make head nor tail of it, for seemingly an eternity and also instantly over. The only thing that seemed clear was the same voice as before whipsering "Sleep reveals all" before fading away. The visions ended.
Lucio's eyes rammed open. He was lying on his floor, covered in dust. There was screaming. His training kicked in; he staggered up, opened his door and slammed his fist against the nearby fire alarm. The wailing of the alarm added itself to the screams of hundreds of people. Lucio began to make his way outside after checking the rest of his corridor was empty, but as he passed the last room on the left he saw blood. Pushingthe door open, he was met with a pale, terrified man clutching his side. There were glass shards all over the floor, and the man was covered in nicks and scratches. He didn't seem to notice Lucio, who brushed a path to him with his foot.
"It's ok, I'm here." he said firmly, grabbing the man's arm. That shook him out of his shock somewhat, and he began to cry out in pain. There was blood dripping from his hands. "Listen to me," the Tellasite said and took the man's head in his hands, "My name is Lucio. You're going to be ok, but I need to see your wound, alright? Let me help." The man nodded and moved his hands away for a brief second, before quickly clamping them down. That second was all Lucio needed to see; it was a very nasty slash, and the man was losing a lot of blood. "I'll be right back, hold on for one second." he dashed out the room, back to his, and yes! There it was, still in the bottom of his suitcase; a first aid kit his Granmatre had bought him. He rushed back to the young man, and got to work stopping the bleeding with a makeshift bandage. As he was working, he made sure to talk to the man. His name was John. He was twenty, a second year studying Mathematics. He didn't want to die.
Within a minute Lucio had finished his work. It would hold, hopefully, long enough for John to receive proper medical attention. "Ok John, let's get you out of here. I'll help you up, and I need you to keep pressure on it, ok? We're going to get out of here and get you safe. It is going to hurt, though, but I'll be with you every step, ok? Are you ready?" John nodded, and Lucio hoisted him up, wrapping his arm around Johns waist and supporting him. Together, they staggered out of the room and began making their way downstairs. John was muttering something over and over with every step;
"-is the mind killer, I shall not fear, fear is the mind killer, I shall not fear,-"
Eventually, they managed to make it outside, where other students were milling about. A fair few were hurt, and others were organising everyone else, and more than one was on their phones, either screaming for an ambulance or crying down it, begging whoever was on the other side to pick up. Lucio gently set John down in an empty space, before a pair of older students approached them; "You know how to use that kit?" one asked him. He nodded. "Good. My friend is hurt." She helped lower her friend down, next to John, and Lucio set to work trying his best. Basic first aid could only do so much, after all, but damn it if he wasn't going to try to help in any way possible.

Olem, nursing a headache, got up out of his bed. He stretched slightly, and noted he was still wearing his coat. He checked the pockets for his gear, and walked out the door, grabbing a cigarette and putting it in his mouth. Around him, people were still screaming, but not as loudly as they were earlier. The people who were still semi with it moved away from Olem as if he'd punched them, but continued on with attempting to help the injured. He strode past them, fiddling in his pocket for his lighter, and also making sure his gloves were on properly. He came to a stop at a closed door, with faint crying come from inside. He attempted to open it with the knob, and when that didn't work, resorted to kicking it open instead. Inside was a pair of young adults, holding each other, both covered head to toe in a mix of dust and blood.
"Hey, you ok?" Olem asked the two hesitantly, his headache starting to get worse.
"No, we are not ok you fuckwit, she's broken her leg, and I uh hurt myself trying to save her" the male shouted at Olem, trying to mask his fear with anger.
"Uh huh, ok, lets get her out and have that leg looked at" Olem replied, and walked over to pickup the girl in his arms, and walked out of the room, the lad following him, limping slightly. The girl grabbed his shirt, and turned her head slightly, coughing blood onto it. He made his way towards the door, and stepped outside, his cigarette was still hanging out of the corner of his mouth, but he'd forgotten all about retrieving the lighter from his pocket. Outside, it was swarming with people, in various states of discomfort. He made his way towards a gathering of stretchers and laid the girl down on one, being careful not to move the leg. "'Ey, can I get a bit of assistance with this?" he asked the general populace, as the lad he had found with the girl had wondered off, leaving him to try and make a rudimentary splint and deal with her coughing.

Ed was flung out of bed and almost directly into the box of notepads she had brought from home. It wasn't really a soft landing, and her head was spinning as she tried to remember where she was. "Woof," she said to herself, more out of shock then anything, and slowly sat up. Out through her window, Ed could see glowing energy waves sweeping across the campus. Everything was lit up in shades of grey, the grass in front of the Vertex Centre almost silver as it moved with the moves. The Vertex Centre--
Ed scrambled for a notepad, still dazed but something in her brain insisting she needed to make a note of this now, somewhere, anywhere. Her brain then promptly decided to try and escape through her forehead. Ed groaned, clutching at her head, and she curled up in a ball under her desk. There was screaming too, coming from around her, and she whined as the noise seemed to pierce her skull. That was nothing compared to the smell though; dust and granite and faint but getting stronger, the heavy metallic tang of blood.
The agony disappeared as her mind went completely blank from pain. Her skin was on fire, or covered in ants, and it swept through her over and over again. Ed howled, pressing her hands to her face, for the agonising few moments it lasted before she passed out.

Herbert shot through the doors with Chris, hurtling through the corridors until he saw a familiar figure. He tried to stop, skidding across the ground, his clothes starting to spark from friction. As a result he nearly knocked over Lucio as he finally halted his run, wind making Lucio stagger slightly. Putting Chris down, he knelt next to Lucio, who was trying to help patch up a wounded guy. "Hey, anything I can do?"

Lucio was on his knees, hands caked in blood. He had managed to help two other people now, but his first aid kit was nearly out of bandages. Thankfully there were a fair few medical students who had taken over and set up a basic triage area and were doing their best until the Ambulances could arrive. Currently, he was off to the side of the triage area, holding the hand of a very pale girl lying in front of him. Broken glass seemed to be the biggest threat, with many students suffering nasty lacerations. This girl, Sarah, was one of the worst. A shard had laced up her arm, severing a vein. She'd had the sense to clamp it at first but by the time anyone had gotten to her she had lost a lot of blood. Lucio had helped one of the medical students bandage her, but he had received a horrified shake of the head from the medical student when they were called to someone else. That was about two minutes ago. Lucio had kept by her, talking to her and holding her hand; she gripped so hard that he had lost feeling in some of his fingers. At first she was crying loudly, but now she was quieter, calling out occasionally for her mum. Lucio knew he would be more help elsewhere but he just couldn't leave her. He was crying himself, but somehow managing to maintain some semblance of control.
Suddenly, there was a loud electrical crackle to his right. Thinking it was another explosion, he threw himself over Sarah to shield her. There followed a small, booming noise and a gust of wind, and Herbert was standing nearby, holding a girl Lucio had seen earlier in his arms. The Tellasite crawled off Sarah and held her hand again, as Herbert asked if there was anything he could do to help. Lucio opened his mouth to respond when he heard the sweetest sound; sirens. They were faint, off in the distance and barely there above the hubbub, but they were there. 'Hold on,' they seemed to be saying 'Help is coming! Just hold on!'. Lucio, tears still streaming down his face, started laughing with relief; deep laughs mixed with sobs racking his body. Sarah gripped his hand tighter. "I told you!" Lucio managed to say through his emotions, "You're going to be fine. They're coming! You're going to be fine, and I'm going to stay right here until they arrive." He took a few deep breaths as the sirens grew somewhat louder, and he turned to Herbert.
"I- I'm not sure. If you've got a first aid kit anywhere that'd be great, but, I, I just don't know, there's so much happening and and I don't know what's going on... Maybe, uh, go and find one of the medical students? Or the porters? I think I saw that big guy from earlier, Oleg? Olav? Him, anyway, helping someone with their leg. See, go and see if he needs help. I'm... I'm fine here. I'm not leaving this spot until the ambulances are here." He was trying hard to stop his bottom lip from quivering too much.

Signe opened her eyes blearily. She had no idea how long she had led behind the open door but she was freezing. She wrapped her arms around herself to suddenly realise that her entire body was now coated in thick white fur. She screamed.
Signe looked at her hands - paws. What was she? Almost as soon as she realised the fur withdrew back into her skin. Ok. What the hell was going on? Signe crawled back outside. No she wasn't wearing shoes. None at all. Why had she thought she had?

Herbert nodded, before taking off. It their was any time to test his speed, it was now. He hurtled away from Chris and Lucio, pushing his body to his limits. He didn't understand his abilities but he did know the simple part; run and run fast. He made his way to the medical labs, searching for students. Finding a scared, but studious looking one, he grabbed him in his arms and, slowing down so as not to kill his charge, made his way back to Lucio. He skidded to a stop, his clothes in starting to set alight, but the sharp wind blew it out. Herbert knew he must look crazy, his eyes wild, but he focused on his task. ""Erm, erm, Oleg right? Porter?" He sprinted off, the world blurring around him.
It was insane, he couldn't comprehend it. He felt light, and he tried not to focus on his arms and legs moving in a blur. Damn, he was thinking about it! He started to stumble, his mind not used to what his body was doing.
Focus... focus...
He started to scan the Uni as he raced around campus. Suddenly he spotted the porter, carrying a student with a broken leg. He slid to a stop, grabbing Oleg and the student by the arms and dragging them behind him in his slipstream. Stopping by Lucio with a sonic boom, he bent over, panting.
"Any- any, whew, anything else?" he panted.

Consciousness ebbed and flowed. James lay in a crumpled heap on the ground. He woke to someone shaking him. He looked up and saw a person in a medical-looking uniform
"ar... ight .... hear ...... look ...."
The man in medical gear screamed and grabbed his eyes, falling over backwards.
James passed out again.

It were as if some immense weight had Alex pinned to the floor of his room. He struggled against it, but could not stand up. His eyes fixed on the door, he drew breath and pushed against the floor. In a sudden burst of movement, he was catapulted across the small room, up from the floor, landing against the door, his shoulder striking it.
'What the hell is going on?'
His breathing was heavy, his chest shaking. Flames and bolts of energy still lit up the world outside his window. Alex paused, took a few deep breaths, forced himself to calm down. 'Okay. Okay...'
He pulled open the door, ran out into the corridor and looked around at the people running and screaming amongst the chaos. Then he remembered he was only in boxer shorts and ran back into his room, slamming the door shut. A moment later, he emerged in jeans and a vest top. People were charging past in a desperate scramble to get out. Everyone in the corridor was moving, except Alex and one other guy. Another student, probably a fresher, was lying on his back, semi-conscious, under a door that had been blown off its hinges.
Alex ran over, pushing past the fleeing crowd, and grabbed the door. He lifted it and threw it aside with a little too much ease. He chalked it up to adrenaline. No time to think about it now. He scooped up the guy on the floor, carrying him with him.
'Come on,' he said. 'Let's get you out of here.'
He moved with the few remaining students who were hurrying for the stairwell. Most of them overtook him quickly enough, the weight of Alex's passenger slowing him up a little.
When he reached the bottom of the stairs, panting, tired, aching as he supported the other student, Alex hurried for the front door to the Accommodation Centre and got outside. He dropped to his knees and carefully put the guy down on the ground beside him. Paramedics who were already onsite ran over to attend to the unconscious guy.
Getting back up, Alex took in the sight before him. Students were gathering, among them the people he had met earlier, and behind them all the Vertex Centre was alight with flame and blue light. Alex ran over to some of the others, the ground painful against his bare feet. But hey, if Bruce Willis could cope in Die Hard...
'Hey!' he called out to some of the others. 'Anyone need help'

Aurora started to regain conciousness. As her eyes flickered open, a paramedic fell to the ground beside her. She jumped up, completely startled. “Lucy?!” She looked around as memories flooded back to her. Lucy was there, with her friend who Aurora had told to leave the building.
“Y-You're-” Lucy started to stutter and then looked at the Paramedic on the floor. “H-he said you had broken your leg a-and possible internal bleeding. Y-You're standing!”
Aurora blinked and looked down at the paramedic. Her head was spinning with confusion. “I... but I was fine. I just fell into some glass.” At that moment she looked down at her body. She was still in her nightdress which was covered in blood at the bottom, but not a scratch was on her skin.
Lucy shook her head and just started to cry. “I-I-I thought I was going to pass out and die before you carried me to safety.” She turned to her friend and hugged her. “It was li-like you took all the pain away. I-I could breathe again.”
Aurora looked down at the paramedic. She took his hand into her own, with the intent to check for a pulse. As soon as she did, the pain started to come back. She dropped the hand and suddenly felt fragile again. The paramedic began to regain conciousness. Aurora stumbled back. It was like she had split the pain between them. “I'm... I'm going to go grab my first-aid kit!” She announced and headed back into the building.

"Well he's not joking about his superspeed thing," Chris thought to herself "is there anything you need me to do?" She said to Lucio as she knelt down beside him, "my name's Christina by the way, or Chris for short," she added with a smile.
