Herbert moved back through time to try and use Lois power, Mental Manipulation, to implant the Redeemer's memories from his encounter with Herb in the 1970s (where he realised he'd done wrong and repented). However, the Vertex energy wore off and Herbert was a novice with Lois' power. He failed to use it properly and instead he just made the Redeemer even more insane. That was Flynnpoint. From there, things worked very differently. Instead of heading to the Olympus to get some Vertex energy the Redeemer just fled.
It was at this same party that Chris would confront Herbert about what had happened with Margarita (Herbert let her escape earlier when she burnent down a building) and also tell him that she was no longer in on taking down Olem (Herbert and Nathan had been planning to stop Olem's killing spree). As she would later tell Aurora, even though she (Chris) believes that Olem does need to be taken down, Herbert has no right trying to force such a thing when he was not prepared to see someone he cares about brought to justice. She called him a hypocrite. Chris would tell Aurora that she would let her handle Olem her way but that she (Chris) would be there for her if she (Aurora) needed her help and if things went wrong.
Time passed and the Redeemer convinced Parasite & Margarita to join him in his attempt to gain control over Olympus and use it to pursue a pro-super agenda. His real plan however was to find evidence of Vertex Energy, the same energy that gave our heroes their powers. He wanted enough that his powers would be enhanced and he could time travel back into the past and stop Captain Omega from gaining his superpowers. His plan remained the same.
Launches an assault on Olympus Tower in an attempt to kill Champion but is thwarted by the collective students. The Redeemer tried to kill Herbert, but his attack was instead taken by Lucio who was presumed permanently killed. After the failed assault, Olympus managed to bring many different vigilantes into the fold, including Nathan and Zero. Herbert, grieving at the loss of Lucio, tried to track down the Redeemer. Despite Nathan’s insistence, Herb confronted the Redeemer and was beaten this time. The collateral damage of the fight cause civilian deaths. Herbert retreated into hiding in remorse.
For about three months the Olympus heroes tried to track him down at the behest of Nathan and Aurora who realised his potential. During this time, The Redeemer brought into his fold two supers known as Trickshot and Crimson Sin, and began reaching out to Olem to join him.
About four months after the First Battle of Olympus Tower, a chance encounter led to a fierce fight between Persephone and Froststar on the Millennium bridge. After an hour of combat, no clear winner could be seen, but the commotion had pulled Herbert from the shadows along with bringing other Olympus members to the scene, so Persephone surrendered instead of getting beaten to a pulp. She willingly told Olympus all she knew of the Redeemer’s plans and it was this knowledge, coupled with Herbert’s return, allowed Olympus to turn the tables and begin truly fighting back against the Redeemer. Aurora managed to convince Chris to come out of hiding and join the fight. She’d previously left because Herbert had spared Margarita when she was working for the Redeemer and she thought he was a hypocrite.
Another battle erupted at the university; towards the end of the battle the Redeemer would look to escape, Chris would give chase only to be confronted by Reaper. Her much anticipated fight with essentially the evil version of herself would commence. Despite Chris' huge development with her powers, she would still come up short against Reaper. After a lengthy battle and with Chris' energy reserves running on empty, Reaper would go in for the kill and then return to the supers to dump her corpse at Herbert's feet as a personal message from the Redeemer. Upon Chris' death Herb got a huge emphathic pulse and he received all the hate she had towards him at the end. This, fuelled with his desire for revenge, leads him to hunt down Reaper and eventually destroy him, tears in his eyes as he delivers the final blows.
This, in addition to Olympus’ well-managed campaign against the Redeemer pushed him to a breaking point: two months after losing Persephone he launched a last, desperate assault on Olympus Tower. In the fighting, he convinced Olem to switch sides. This sudden betrayal almost doomed the Olympus heroes, but the tides were turned by the sacrifice of Taniel and the return of Lucio. Vigilantes from across London rushed to the tower to join the fight on both sides, and eventually the Redeemer gained entrance to the tower, his armour badly damaged after an attempt to fight the Heroes Of Campus alone. His hubris led to him being weakened by mere students and when he tried to utilise experimental Vertex energy he was fractured across time. The Redeemer is dead; akin to being shoved in a blender just that blender is time.
Other casualties of the battle included Fulgur and Crimson Sin. The Parasite and Olem escaped and fled the country, and Lucio’s return saved many lives. Olympus grew much stronger in the aftermath of this battle; many vigilantes previously hostile or apathetic made connections and simple agreements with them.
That was five years ago. Olympus, under Champion’s direction, has gone from strength to strength. The vertex incident created a new, separate generation of supers who were able to master their powers in weeks or months, compared to the years of training it took for other supers. The organisation has also opened offices in seven other countries in the world, most recently in Tellasi, and is generally regarded as the premier Superhero League on the planet.
Herbert spent the rest of those years convinced the Redeemer could be redeemed. He still talks about an event called ‘Flynnpoint’, where he claims he fought the Redeemer in the 1970s and used his space-time manipulation abilities to change the timeline. It resulted in the one above. There is no evidence to back his up and many think Herbert is lying, or that the stress of absorbing too many powers have altered his own memories. The only facts to others are the events above.
Lucio remained with Olympus, Aurora moved off, still unsure about her part in Olem’s fate. She retired to a normal life. Ed used Olympus’ discrimination program to teach new supers with more complicated afflictions to accept their gifts. Zero still worked in the dark. James continued to work for Olympus, trying to control his powers. Margarita is now a loyal member of Olympus and still blushes when Herb walks by. Nathan doesn’t however, and belittles him instead. Despite that he’s a proud man of his protege, even if he is wheelchair bound after his fight with Redeemer at Trafalger.
