Lucio was, as ever, confused. Very confused. His brow was furrowed and he had been listening intently to the previous conversation and/or potential flaming row. Being so deep in thought that he did not notice heeberts hand being offered, be finally ventured forth his question, although he had been warned against it. The acquisition of knowledge always held some inherent risks, after all, and is it not in mankind's nature to seek the answers to the unknown?
"What is a -" here he tried to imitate Aurora's pronunciation but ended up sounding more like 'scorn'- "scone, and why should one not discuss how to pronounce it?"

Herbert lifted Lucio to his feet, then promptly dropped him as he facepalmed at Lucio's last question.

Grasping Herbert's proffered hand firmly "Olem Tamas, second year Medical student", he let go and stared at the tanned boy struggling with the couch. "Typically, you do not talk about the pronunciation of Scone (ooc: think gone), as it is a hotly debated topic with no correct answer - however, I am most amused that you refuse to talk about dinosaurs, that's a very specific topic to avoid" he smirked, looking at Aurora.

“I'll buy you one at the café next time we're there. You can't be in Britain without a taste of one.” Aurora said to Lucio. She then turned to Olem. He towered over her, intimidatingly and yet not. She rubbed the back of her head and averted her gaze. It was rude to stare after all, even if he did pronounce 'scone' WRONG. She wasn't about to break her own rule though.
“Trust me, I have never seen a topic ruin close friendships quite like 'which is the best dinosaur?' before. I don't think they've spoken since...” She trailed off at the end.

Signe smiled. The answer was clearly microraptor but somehow she doubted that had entered the conversation. The Dane looked around. She was beginning to feel more ans more uncomfortable and her mind drifted back to her book. She wanted to write but she could not sit down in those chairs. They looked a gross. Her eyes flickered around. She didn't know what to do, so remained frozen.

Herbert was willing to risk a few ruined friendships though. "Olem, Aurora, I'm afraid to tell you the answer is Indominus Rex; camouflage, heat vision, near bullet proof skin. Hell, it's the Captain Omega of the dinosaur world." Feeling more confident, he raised his eyebrows, waiting for them to contradict him. "No, I think a better topic to ruin friendships, besides religion, is what superpower is the best. I mean," he spread his hands, "we live in a world of Supers; the debate has never been more relevant."

Lucio, being a manly Mediterranean man and veteran to boot, naturally screamed like a little bitch as he Herbert let go and he plummeted back down to the dusty depths of the sofa cushions. He eventually managed to haul himself out again just as Aurora trailed off with something about dinosaurs. Lucio opened his mouth to argue the case of Stegosaurus but decided against it, deciding that maybe, just maybe, he had made a fool of himself enough today.

"Microraptor," muttered Signe but reasonably quietly and to herself. She glanced up at the cieling. "Wow. Det er en masse tyggegummi," she said a little louder although still to herself.

"Any topic with a differing opinion can cause conflict, yet it is learning those opinions which cause greater friendships to be created. Or making enemies, but you can't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs" he turned to look at Herbert "Isn't that a fictional creature? That'd be like me saying my favourite reptile is Smaug" he put his hand in his pocket, fiddling with a little box. "I'm gonna go outside shortly, if any of you care to join me?

'Outside sounds good,' said Alex, eager to move away from the odd directions in which the conversation was moving. 'Actually, anyone up for the bar in a bit? You can't start a new year without drinks.' He offered a small attempt at a smile. This little bunch didn't seem like the most conventional of people, but they were friendly and willing to chat and that was as good a start as any. 'Oh,' he turned to Aurora, leaning over to her and whispering, 'it's a Velociraptor, by the way.'

Herbert raised a finger. "True, it's fictional and it would be like saying your favourite reptile was Smaug. But in turn, I'd commend you on your choice; dragon IS the best reptile." Herbert wasn't sure he wanted to go outside; he did need to see his dorm but he reckoned that he could see that later. Friends were more important. He grabbed Lucio shoulder and steered him up. "Me and Lucio can hang outside for a bit," he winced at how lame that sounded.

Ed was deep in thought, considering the implication of supers using the campus to test their guardian drones. She didn't know a lot about how Olympus managed their supers or their policies -- to be honest, superheroes, supervillains, and the various individuals who existed in between had never interested her. She still couldn't recall the name of the only superhero she'd ever met (something something, maybe Heat something? Cold something? And was it Lady or Girl or Miss or)
This was clearly an oversight on her part. If she was going to be living in London, and reporting on the Truth, super-people would come under that. There would be no room for ignorance or tin-hatted conspiracy theories.
Ed wandered away back to her room, not seeing or hearing Herbert introduce himself as she already thought about where she should start her research and if she'd brought the notepad from that school visit by that Olympian (Madame Fire?? What had been her name--)

Olem strode over, and picked up his bag before making his way back to Alex. Dipping his hand into one of his coat pockets, he withdrew a packet of cigarettes. "Do you smoke?" he asked, pulling one out and placing it into the corner of his mouth. He dropped the bag on the floor, and fished in another pocket for his lighter, and fished it out, placing it into the hand holding the small box, and retrieved his bag from the floor.

'Every now and then,' said Alex. 'I think the first day of a new year is occasion enough to justify a smoke.' He smiled as he stepped towards the door, gesturing to the others to follow. 'I'm Alex, by the way,' he said to Olem, realising he hadn't introduced himself to everyone. 'Second year. One of the artsy fartsy crowd, I'm afraid, doing Film, Photography and Media. Upside is it gives me a whole lot more time to spend in the pub!'
