Located at the bottom of the green, a belt of trees form the university's woodland, within which rests the lake. Many barbecues take place around the lake in the summer time and it makes for a beautiful scenic walk on a lazy afternoon.
On a less innocent note, the cover provided by the trees and tranquillity of the lake mean this attracts a very different crowd after dark. The thick shrubs have become a haven for drug users and the lake a backdrop to many drunken one night stands.

Post by Kirk Adams on Dec 24, 2016 5:03:22 GMT
Kirk loped down the dark expanse of the green, nodding his head to the rhythm of his earphones, heading for the trees beyond. He'd stayed late to close down an open mic, and the pale light of dawn cast a shadow behind him. Time to relax and smoke the fuck up before bed.
He reached the edge of the trees and-making for a spot he vaguely remembered-found a discarded camping chair in the dirt and leaves. Propping it up he nestled his guitar case in the seat, before dropping to the ground next to it. Leaning up against a tree trunk Kirk pulled a lighter from one pocket and a small joint from the other. The lighter sparked, and the joint glowed ember, casting Kirk's face in shadow. He breathed deep, and sighed. It was good to be back in London. As he felt the muscles in his neck and shoulders relax he toyed with the zippo in his hand, making it dance across his knuckles, first one way then the other. He snapped his fingers and the lighter sprang open, before he made it dissappear entirely with a wave of his hand. Whatever's in these tablets is really fuckin crazy he mused. It was true; the obvious results of the HNTE pills were astonishing. Kirk took a second toke, sinking back and closing his eyes as he exhaled.
Somewhere behind him a column of flame and smoke shattered the dawn air, and a chorus of explosions and howling sirens echoed through the quiet. Kirk felt a gust of heat, dragging him from his reverie, and he turned just as the explosion hit. The tree he had been leaning on was peeled apart layer by layer, and sparks snapped between the splinters as he was hurled skywards. Somehow, in the cyclone of noise, shrapnel and flying bolts of electricity, Kirk managed to hook his hand into the strap of his bag, slinging it across his shoulders reflexively.
Suddenly, as if a terrible storm had passed, the shock wave subsided and Kirk began to plummet to the ground. Time seemed to slow down for him as the ground loomed larger and larger below. Just before he made a very final impact with the earth Kirk flung the guitar from him, pulling his knees in and-SLAM. The air left his lungs, instinct took over and he rolled hard onto his shoulder, spreading the impact, before tumbling almost gracefully to his feet.
Resting his hands on his knees Kirk tried to catch his breath, taking in what had just happened. On the horizon the ruins of the vertex centre burned, framed against the rising sun it would have been oddly beautiful if you couldn't hear the screaming and the sirens.
"Ignoring, for a second" Kirk muttered to himself "the giant explosion... what the fuck was that ninja shit Adams?" It was a fair question, neat lighter tricks was one thing, but surviving an explosion and a 15 foot plummet using FREE RUNNING? How strong are these fuckin tablets man? His thought process was cut short by the mechanical whirr and barking voice of a defence drone. "You have been witness to a super human incident. Please submit to S-Quadrant questioning and treatment. You have been witness-" The metallic guardian paused for a second as though confused. Suddenly it shot a mechanical arm towards Kirk, and before he could process what his own limbs were doing he was yanking the thing to the ground and pulling cables from the back of its steel skull.
The drone writhed on the ground whirring hysterically, before twitching and finally going silent. Kirk stepped back slowly, shaking. What the FUCK just happened. "Non-Olympus super human detected." A second robotic hum had replaced the dying wheeze of the first. It was soon joined by a third. "Target hostile to S-quadrant personnel, engage and subdue." Kirk didn't need super human reflexes to know that now was the time to turn and run.
He had made it about 20 metres before the first shell detonated to his left, spraying him with clumps of dirt. The second would have blown him to pieces except he was vaulting backwards over it before it even touched the ground. He watched it detonate in slow motion, bulging outward, mechanical pieces flying towards him. He snatched one out of the air, flinging it behind him. He took off into the night, racing accross the green. If I can get to the bridge by the little wall I'll lose them. The bridge was a Little known shortcut on campus, circumventing the main hub of accommodation and the square. If he could lose them before the bridge he'd come out at the street on the other side of the square, and they'd have no chance of catching up with him then. Not that Kirk was overly familiar with the route, or using it while running from the cops. Except those cops weren't mechanised killing machines designed to fight super powers. Kirk started laughing as he ran. I have fuckin super powers man!

Aurora gingerly walked across the green until she met the treeline of the woods. She disappeared into them but stayed close to the lake. She dodged the dodgier looking areas where there were flat and empty spaces amongst the twigs and dirt. She averted her gaze from the odd condom on the ground, or in some cases, hung limply over a branch. Their were cigarette ends as well, littering parts of the Woods. This was definitely a place she wanted to avoid late at night, but for someone who wanted to escape everything else that was going on, it was a perfect hideaway.
Eventually, Aurora stumbled across a safe-looking log. There were no questionable marks on it nor too much litter around it. She cautiously sat down and stared out through the trees at the glistening lake. It was so still, quiet and tranquil. It was the polar opposite of the morning she had experienced. Her hand subconsciously rubbed over the make-shift sling around her wrist.
Aurora pulled her handbag onto her lap and tried to open the zip on it. She pulled out a bottle of water and smiled softly to herself. She felt at peace.

Signe approached the lake. She wanted to stay away from people. This all seemed a bit much today. Once again suddenly finding herself not wearing the shoes she thought she was, she put straight onto a shard of a broken bottle. "Lort!" She swore a lot louder than intended. "Fanden! Lort! Det gør ondt! Fanden! Argh!" She collapsed to her knees and tried to manouver herself around so that she could look at her foot. She squinted through the darkness at it. Right in the middle... son of a bitch... she gritted her teeth. And possible blood poisoning. And her phone was still in her room. Shit. Why the hell did she not pick it up? Signe groaned. Now what was she supposed to do?

Aurora was texting on her phone while sat on the log. The others were at the LiBARy. She had thought about joining them, but she was still unsure, so she sat in the woods and waited for Olem and her bacon wrap. As she was about to reply to a text, she heard a voice echo around the trees. She nearly jumped out of her skin.
'That didn't sound like Olem.' Aurora thought to herself. 'It sounded almost like someone was in pain. I should just leave them be, I don't want to-' Aurora looked at her hands. One still in a sling, the other holding her phone. 'Come on, Rora. Get it together. They might need help.' She dropped her phone into her handbag and stood up. She looked around the trees and tried to decipher where the voice had come from.
“Hello?! Are you okay?! Can I help you?!” Then her eyes pinpointed a silhouette of someone slumped on the floor. Aurora cautiously approached it.

Signe looked up. "Stepped on a bottle," she grunted, forcing her brain manually back into English, which was quite hard now she was in pain. Then her brain clicked. That voice. "Aurora?"

Now the voice was in English, Aurora recognised it. “Signe?!” Aurora could almost cry. She bolted forward past the trees, mindful of her shoulder, until she could see Signe's face. “Signe!” Aurora put her hand on her chest, just over her heart. “I WAS SO WORRIED ABOUT YOU!” She looked down at the blonde female who was hunched over her injury. “H-hold on.” Aurora unclipped her Dad's first-aid bag from her belt, kicked anymore broken glass out of the way and crouched down. “I take it you want me to have a look at that?”

Signe winced. 'Well... I was... I was thinking that someone could help me find a doctor or something, but that might help." She winced. "Thank you."

Aurora smiled softly. “I'll get you to a doctor, don't worry, but first I'll see if-” Aurora stopped as she was about to touch Signe's foot to check for glass. “On second thought, I better just call the Porters so they can take you to a doctor.” Aurora took out her phone and tried to search for the Campus number. She laughed nervously. “I-I don't want to make it worse after all!” It was more that she didn't know what would happen if she touched Signe, especially if the glass was still in the wound.

Signe looked at it. "I don't want to pull it out. I've read enough books to know why that is a bad idea. Lort. That hurts."

Olem checked his phone and made his way into the woods, a lit cigarette in his mouth. He heard a sharp cry and made his way towards the sound, his power flaring up around his hands. As he got closer to it, the noise started to die down and he clenched his fists, dissipating the energy. He continued to walk through the woods until he came across a shock of pink hair and an injured girl on the floor.
"Hello?" he called out, walking over, and squatting next to the pair. He looked at Aurora, and then looked at the injury. "If you want to help her, I'd advise not pulling the glass out, she needs specialist help and care to get it removed safely" he crushed the cigarette between his fingers, and tried to look for a place to put it, before giving up and digging through his pockets for a bag.

Aurora shook her head. "I wasn't going to pull it out. I was just going to check to see if there was more glass than just this chunk." Aurora was almost pouting. As she found the Porter's number, a text message from Herbert popped up. She scanned over the message and smiled at Signe. "We can't carry you ourselves, but I know someone who can get you to a doctor in a flash. I'll drop him a text."

Herbert raced out of thew woods, a small sonic boom throwing the trees back slightly. Skidding to the stop, his pyjamas (OOC: he didn't get time to change!) smoking, he stopped beside them.
"Got your message, you okay?" He asked Aurora. "Oh, hey Olem," he noticed. "Right, who needs help and what do you need me to do?"

The wind rustled up her hair and she covered her eyes as dirt was swept up. It would take a while to get used to that. Aurora grinned. Even though it hadn't been that long, it felt like it had been ages since she saw Herbert. "I'm... okay, thanks." Aurora nodded at Signe. "She's stood in some glass and she needs to be looked at by a doctor. I can't carry her out with my shoulder the way it is... would you mind?" She avoided mentioning her powers.
